LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant-Benton football rivalry expands into a new area of competition on Saturday with the Bryant vs. Benton Combine to be held at D1 Sports Training of Little Rock.
Athletes from each team will compete in six events with the top 20 scores going toward the final results. The winning team will receive a $1,000 contribution, the runner-up will receive a $500 contribution. A traveling trophy will also be awarded.
Events will include 10/20/40 yard sprints; Pro Agility; L-Drill; Vertical; Standing Long Jump; and body weight.[more]
According to Bryant trainer Krista Finney of OrthoArkansas, the combine will be run by professional strength and conditioning coaches at D1, which is co-owned by champion boxer Jermain Taylor.
“Safety is of the utmost importance at D1,” she said, “and proper technique will be emphasized with each event. Each athlete’s individual scores will be made available to coaches and to parents. We will also compare each athlete’s score against a national percentile to let them know where they rank compared to football athletes across the country.
“While we will not send scores to individual universities, the information will supply the athlete’s (high school) coaches with empirical data to provide to potential college recruiters.”
The competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. and conclude around noon.
