Trivia question: Who’s the only person from Bryant that has been elected to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame?
It shouldn’t be difficult if you read the headline on this post or the Editor’s note.
Indeed, it is Tina Webb who was inducted in 2007 with the following synopsis of her career:
“Tina is the only athlete in Arkansas sports history to be named first team All-American four times, (NAIA All American, Kodak All- American, and American Women’s Sports Federation All-American). A three-time finalist for NAIA National Player of the Year, her record-setting career included being MVP of the National Women’s Tournament, where she set the NAIA career rebounding record (13.9 per game). She was a three-time District 17 MVP, and earned All-AIC and District 17 honors four times. She holds more than 10 University of Arkansas-Monticello and District 17 career records. Tina is a native of Bryant, a member of the UAM Athletic Hall of Fame, and also played professionally in Japan, Brazil, Switzerland and Belgium when there was no WNBA.”
Add to that, that Webb scored 3,412 points in her college basketball career. At the time of her induction into the Arkansas Hall of Fame, that ranked her fifth in women’s college basketball and any level. She averaged 27.1 points per game over a four-year career.
At Bryant, Webb was a trailblazer for a suddenly emerging Lady Hornets’ basketball program and its golden era in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s. As a sophomore, she led the Lady Hornets to their first State championship in 1982. She was all-State all three years in high school despite being double and triple teamed much of the time.
