On Saturday, May 10, the Bryant Athletic Association signed a contract with officials from the Cal Ripken Youth Baseball organization to host the 2014 Southwest Regional Tournament for the eight-year-old age group.
The tournament will be held at Bishop Park July 17-22 and is expected to bring 1,500 people to the city and surrounding areas. There will be approximately 25 teams from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Oklahoma.
Rick Brown, tournament director, said he believes that the restaurants and retail stores in the area will thrive with the influx of baseball players and their families for the event.
