SHERWOOD — The Bryant 8-year-old All-Stars allowed just one base-running in three innings and came one run short of scoring the maximum number of runs themselves as they rolled to a 17-0 win over Hamburg in the opener of State Tournament play on Friday.
The Bryant team is set to play one of the three Little Rock Junior Deputy teams at the tournament Saturday afternoon at 4.
The Bryant 8’s, managed by Clint Hilson with assistance from Mike Meaders and Bill Drennan, include Cade Drennan, Hayden Hilson, Colton Kilgore, Rhett James, Tyler Larue, Braydan Lester, Trey McKim, Jake Meaders, Riley Morales, Josh Prather, Shane Small and Gage Stark.Hamburg’s lone base-runner came in the second on a pair of Bryant errors that allowed him to get to third but he was stranded.[more]
Bryant took a 5-0 lead in the first. Lester led off with a single and sprinted home on a double by Hilson. Larue reached on an error then Drennan chased in both runners with a double. James singled Drennan to third and McKim got him home with a sacrifice fly. Meaders then capped off the onslaught with an RBI triple.
In the second, back-t0-back doubles by Larue and Drennan made it 6-0. James singled and McKim blistered a triple to drive in a pair. Meaders’ double plated McKim. Kilgore singled in a run then scored on Small’s two-bagger to make it 11-0.
The clinching outburst in the third began with a double by Stark. Prather singled then both scored on Lester’s double. Hilson followed with an RBI single and, after Larue doubled him in, Drennan cracked an RBI double and James singled to finish off the victory.
