SHERWOOD — The Bryant 8-year-old All-Stars captured the championship of[more] a Fathers Day tournament at Sherwood on Sunday with a 13-0 win over Sylvan Hills.
Team members include Luke Bessire, Dakota Clay, Cooper Davis, Noah Davis, Peyton Dillon, Will Hathcote, Jagger Littleton, Justin Orender, Brett Pennington, Austin Schroeder, Lawson Speer, Josh Turner and Garret Wilson. Matt Orender coaches the 8-year-olds with assistance from Patrick Schroeder and Paul Speer.
Bryant scored in each of the four innings including the maximum of six in the third. A three-run homer by Cooper Davis in the bottom of the fourth put the game out of reach.
Bryant took a 3-0 lead in the first when Wilson singled, stole second and scored on a double by Cooper Davis. Dillon singled and stole second. With two out, base hits by Speer and Hathcote drove in runs.
Pennington opened the second with a base hit and, after he stole his way to third, he scored on a two-out single by Littleton to make it 4-0.
The game-breaking third began with consecutive doubles by Wilson, Cooper Davis, Dillon and Bessire. With one out, the hit parade resumed with singles by Hathcote and Turner. Pennington and Orender belted doubles to bring Bryant to the limit.
To wrap up the win in the fourth, Schroeder singled and Littleton grounded into a force at second. With two away, Wilson singled to set the stage for Davis’ blast.
The 8’s begin District Tournament play this Friday at Bishop Park.
