LONG BEACH, Miss. — The Bryant 7-year-old All-Stars scored in four of five innings while holding Gulfport, Miss., scoreless as they opened the 2015 Cal Ripken Baseball Southwest Regional on Thursday with a 7-0 win.
The team, managed by Josh Daves with assistance from Ryan Martin and Chris Taylor, includes Luke Andrews, Johnathan Carter, Cohen Chalmers, Grant Daves, Kolby Duncan, Julian Epperson, Colt Martin, Jeremiah Motes, Barrett Royal, Jake Taylor, Chance Thompson and Chase Trimble.
In their second pool game on Thursday evening against East Central, Miss., Bryant’s All-Stars absorbed a 13-2 loss. On Friday, they complete pool play with a 1:30 p.m., contest against Petal, Miss.
Bryant 7, Gulfport 0
Bryant took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Daves and Taylor scored. In the third, Carter scored to make it 3-0.
Motes and Duncan crossed the plate in the fourth then Epperson and Carter scored in the fifth to set the final score.
East Central 13, Bryant 2
Daves scored in the first and Epperson scored in the third to account for Bryant’s runs.
Unfortunately, East Central put up five runs in the first then scored the maximum of six in the second. Two more scored in the third.
