LONG BEACH, Miss. — The Bryant 7-and-under All-Stars’ defense held the Blytheville All-Stars to just one run over five innings as they forged a 9-1 win in the first round of bracket play at the Cal Ripken Baseball 7u Southwest Regional Tournament on Saturday.
The Bryant All-Stars, managed by Josh Daves with assistance from Ryan Martin and Chris Taylor, include Luke Andrews, Johnathan Carter, Cohen Chalmers, Grant Daves, Kolby Duncan, Julian Epperson, Colt Martin, Jeremiah Motes, Barrett Royal, Jake Taylor, Chance Thompson and Chase Trimble.
Bryant was scheduled to play a second game on Saturday but severe weather forced the postponement of the game until Sunday morning at 8:30.
Bryant took a 2-0 lead in the first, added a run in the second and scored four times in the top of the third. A two-run fourth put the finishing touches on the victory.
Blytheville’s lone run scored in the bottom of the third, cutting Bryant’s lead to 7-1.
In the first, Carter and Daves scored after leading off the inning with hits. Hits by Martin, Trimble and Andrews produced the run in the second.
Royal’s one-out hit started the third-inning outburst. Carter, Daves, Chalmers and Motes followed with hits as Bryant got a carousel going on the bases.
Duncan beat out a tapper with one down in the fourth. Trimble drilled a hit to right then Andrews beat out an infield hit. Thompson got a run home when he grounded into a force at second. Royal beat out an infield hit to put two aboard but Carter’s grounder to third resulted in a force out there to end the uprising.
