LONG BEACH, Miss. — The Bryant 7-year-old All-Stars wrapped up pool play at the 2015 Cal Ripken Baseball 7u Southwest Regional Tournament by battling with Petal, Miss., to a 4-4 tie on Saturday.
Bryant will begin bracket play on Saturday at noon against Blytheville, Ark.
The Bryant All-Stars, managed by Josh Daves with assistance from Ryan Martin and Chris Taylor, include Luke Andrews, Johnathan Carter, Cohen Chalmers, Grant Daves, Kolby Duncan, Julian Epperson, Colt Martin, Jeremiah Motes, Barrett Royal, Jake Taylor, Chance Thompson and Chase Trimble.
Each team was scoreless in Saturday’s game except in the fourth inning.
Bryant struck first in the top of the frame. Daves and Taylor opened the inning with hits. Chalmers grounded into a force at second then Motes beat out an infield knock before Martin drilled a hit to left to make it 3-0. Barrett picked up an RBI on a grounder to first that got Martin home with the fourth run.
But Petal scored four times to counter that in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Trimble led off with a double but was stranded. Bryant was retired in order in the sixth.
Petal managed a base-runner in each of the last two frames, both on infield hits but neither advanced.
Earlier in the game, Taylor had singled in the first. In the third, Andrews beat out an infield hit with one down then Epperson doubled but Bryant was unable to advance them.
Petal nearly scored in the first but Bryant threw out a runner at the plate.
