BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — The Bryant All-Stars were unable to overcome a six-run second as they absorbed their first loss in pool play against the Daphne, Ala., All-Stars at the 7U Cal Ripken Southwest Regional Tournament on Friday.
Bryant was scheduled to play again on Friday against East Feliciana, La.,
The Bryant team, coached by Chris Pringle, includes Blake Brower, Cannon Chalmers, Carson Dozier, Jake Elliott, Cooper Hatman, Lyndon Johnson, Hunter Markham, Reid Mitchell, Paxton Pringle, Max Rauth, Jaxon Riggs, Drew Tate-Lee and Jackson Trusty.
Riggs, Tate-Lee, Trusty, Chalmers and Rauth each had two hits in the game. Rauth drove in three.
Daphne broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first but Bryant answered with two in the home half on Riggs’ two-run homer to center. Elliott had singled on a liner to left to start the frame. With one out, Hatman doubled but he was stranded.
Daphne hit four round-trippers in the six-run second. Bryant battled back with two more in the home half of the inning. Singles by Johnson, Tate-Lee and Trusty got things started but Johnson was thrown out at the plate.
Chalmers continued the hit parade with an infield hit to load the bases for Rauth who cracked a double to send Tate-Lee and Trusty home.
A two-run homer in the top of the third put Bryant in an 11-4 hole. The lead grew to 14-4 with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth for the Alabama team.
Again, however, Bryant rallied. In the bottom of the fifth, Dozier singled and Tate-Lee blasted a homer to center. Consecutive singles by Trusty, Chalmers and Rauth produced a run but the fun ended there as Daphne closed out the win.
