The Bryant All-Stars will play for the championship of the Cal Ripkin 12-year-old State Tournament tonight at[more] 7 after they continued their domination of the tournament at Bishop Park on Monday with a 17-1 rout over the Camden All-Stars in the winners bracket finals.
The win came on the heels of a 10-0 thumping of Monticello on Sunday.
Team members include Logan Allen, Beaux Bonvillian, Drew Brown, Cameron Coleman, Jake East, Jeffery Hastings, Dylan Hurt, D.J. McKinney, Austin Kelly, Hayden Knowles, Preston Kyzer, Garrett Misenheimer, Aaron Orender, Matthew Sandidge and Scott Schmidt. Darren Hurt is the manager with assistance from Rick Brown and Randy Kelly.
East shut out Camden on two hits over the first three innings then gave way to Bonvillian who allowed a hit and a run before retiring the final three batters to end the game.
A nine-run first had Bryant on its way to victory. East and Allen singled then Misenheimer and Knowles belted consecutive doubles. When Hurt walked, Camden made a pitching change but little changed. Kelley cracked a ground-rule double and Schmidt singled. Walks to Hastings and Orender followed.
Schmidt scored on a passed ball but Hastings was tagged out trying to do the same. With two down, Allen beat out an infield hit, Misenheimer walked and Knowles belted his second double of the inning to cap things off.
In the second, Schmidt was hit by a pitch then scored on a triple by Hastings to right-center. Orender singled to make it 11-0. He eventually scored as well.
Knowles led off the third with a single. Hurt reached on an error and, with one out, Schmidt singled in a run. Sandidge singled ahead of a double by East. The final run scored when Brown reached on an error.
Bryant 10, Monticello 0
Hurt tossed the four-hit shutout, walking just one and striking out five in the five-inning win.
The Stars took a 2-0 lead in the first. East singled and, with one out, so did Misenheimer. East scored on a wild pitch then singles by Knowles and Schmidt brought Misenheimer around with the second run.
The Bryant had runners on base in the second and third, it stayed 2-0 until the fourth when a six-run outburst put the Stars in control. A bunt single by Allen and an error started it. East singled him home then swiped second before scoring on a single by Kelly. After Kelly stole his way to third, he scored when Knowles’s grounder to short was misplayed.
Hurt singled and, after Schmidt got a sacrifice bunt down and Hastings walked, McKinney greeted a new pitcher with a three-run double to left.
Bryant put the finishing touches on the run-rule win in the fifth when East and Kelley cracked consecutive doubles and, after Misenheimer walked, Knowles’ grounder to third was booted as Kelly scored the final run.
