After being frustrated offensively by Vilonia in their season-opener on Monday, the Bryant Blue[more] Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School erupted for a 38-19 win over the E Stem Carther School Lady Mets on Thursday night.
In addition, the Lady Hornets seventh grade team made a successful debut, 24-10.
The Bryant Blue eighth grade team had been limited to just 7 points at Vilonia but, on Thursday, three individual players wound up with more than that. Kendal Rogers led the way with 11. Reagan McCormick pitched in with 9 and Riley Hill had 8.
In addition, Penny Smith scored 4 and Bethany Hutchison, Morgan Walters and Ti Foote had 2 apiece.
A 14-2 start helped put the Lady Hornets on the road to the victory. They led 26-7 at the half and 29-15 going into the fourth quarter.
The seventh grade game was tied at 2 as the two teams felt their way through the first quarter. But the Lady Hornets got it going while keeping the Lady Mets stymied in the second period. It was 10-2 at the half then 18-8 at the end of the third quarter.
Raijia Todd poured in 16 points for Bryant Blue. Bailey Rowton finished with 4 while Stephanie Cullen and Danielle Singleton contributed 2 each.
The eighth grade team is set to open play in a tournament at the Anthony School in Little Rock on Monday. The seventh grade team returns to action on Nov. 27 with A and B games at home against Lake Hamilton.
