CONWAY — After building a 28-19 halftime lead, the Bryant Hornets freshman basketball team fell victim to some furious second half full-court pressure as the Conway Blue Wampus Cats rallied to outscore the Hornets 67-61 on Monday night.
“We played good defensively in the first half and I was proud of that,” said Hornets coach Tyler Posey. “The second half, they blitzed us with the press and it turned us over several times.”
Still, the Hornets were clinging to a 39-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.
“After back-and-forth baskets at the end, they took the lead on an and-one and we couldn’t convert our opportunities,” Posey said.
JonLuke Sprout led Bryant with 14 points. Tristan Calhoun added 12 and Luke Curtis 11.
The Hornets are set to return to action on Thursday at Little Rock Catholic before finishing up their pre-Christmas schedule at home against Russellville on Monday, Dec. 15.
