LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School finished the Anthony Classic with their second narrow[more] defeat of the event. E-Stem, a public charter school in Little Rock, surged at the end to overcome a Bryant lead and secure a 22-19 victory.
The Bryant Blue team includes Annamarie Blair, Isabella Bluemmel, Julie Brazil, Nikki Clay, Haley Dellis, Brittany Kelley, Mercedes Dillard, Yessenia Gaspar, Katelyn Giffin, Emily Henson, Allison Hughes, Jamie Jamison, Rylee Phillips, Saide Powers, and Dominque West.
“The girls played really hard but we didn’t rise to the occasion when the game got close like we needed to,” commented Bryant Blue coach Rhonda Hall.
The two teams struggled to score early. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Hornets held a 1-0 lead. They held an 8-7 advantage at the half and extended that to 14-9 by the end of the third quarter only to have E-Stem put together a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.
Clay led the Lady Hornets with 7 points. Phillips added 6. Gaspar, Hughes and Powers pitched in with 2 apiece.
The team, now 3-2, returns to action on Monday against Benton before the freshman games. The Bethel seventh grade team plays at home against Bryant White on Monday.
