Mary Catherine Selig pumped in 15 points and Rachel Studdard 8 as the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School won their showdown with the Bryant White Lady Hornets of Bryant Middle School Thursday night, 23-15.
Blue led just 3-2 after a quarter but extended the margin to 8-4 by halftime. It was a tight 12-9 game going into the final period.
Kristin Boyle led White with 6 points. Kalia Walker had 4, Allie Dugan 3 and Meagan Chism 2.
“I was pleased with our defensive effort and rebounding,” said Bethel coach Derek McGrew. “Both teams struggled offensively.
“It’s always nice to win against our rival Bryant,” he added. “I felt both teams played hard, and look forward to our next meeting with them in February.”
That’ll be at Bethel on Feb. 5. In the meantime, both teams have concluded their pre-Christmas schedule. Bryant Blue, now 3-4, returns to action against Cabot South on Jan. 8, 2015. Bryant White, now 5-4, will have its next outing will be against Russellville on Jan. 13, 2015.
