LITTLE ROCK — Spencer Kilgore, Chase Thornton and Chase Christie each scored 10 points to lead the Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School to a 49-31 win over the host team at The Anthony School Classic on Tuesday night.
The Hornets, now 3-0, finish pool play tonight against Arkansas Baptist. With a win, Bryant Blue advances to the championship game of the Classic. Consolation and championship games will be played on Thursday.[more]
“I was able to play all four players on the team and 12 of them scored,” noted Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “We’re in the process of playing four games in four days, so I was grateful to rest our starters. We face a tough Arkansas Baptist team tonight.”
The Hornets broke out to a 10-5 lead in the first quarter and expanded it to 21-11 at the half. It was 42-24 going into the final period.
At Bethel on Tuesday, the seventh grade Hornets posted a 34-25 win over Cabot South to improve to 3-0. Blue led 12-9 after a quarter but the game was close after that, 15-15 at the half and 22-21 Bethel after three quarters before they pulled away late.
Brandon Warner led the way with 9 points. Brushawn Hunter added 8, Jason Hastings 7 with Austin Green and Mark Winn pitching in with 4 each.
In a B game, Cabot South prevailed 14-11. Dylan Wolf scored 4 points and Zach McConnell 3 for the Hornets.
