LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School will play for the championship of the Panther Pride Tournament at The Anthony School after dismissing the Little Rock Quest Charter School Knights on Monday, 51-21.
The title contest will be Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Bryant Blue seventh grade team suffered a one-point loss to the Knights. They’ll play a consolation final on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., against Clinton.
The eighth grade Hornets had opened the season on Thursday, Nov. 10, with a 40-31 win over The Anthony School. The seventh grade team was also victorious, 22-20.
Thirteen different players contributed to Bethel’s win on Monday. Brayden Godwin led the way with 10 points including 6 in the first quarter when the Hornets established a 9-5 lead.
Hayden Schrader added 7 points. Ryan Riggs and Landon Nelson each had 5 points, Jackson Lindsey and Will Hanson 4 apiece. Austin Schroeder and Brandon Geissler added 3 each. Braden Robinson, Justin Orender, Xavier Foote, Dylon Ruby and Caleb Redam pitched in with 2 each.
Nelson and Schroeder each hit 3’s during the game-breaking second quarter. Schrader scored 4 of his points and Lindsey 3 as the lead ballooned to 28-12 by the break.
Riggs and Schrader pumped in 3’s during the third quarter and the lead grew to 40-19. In the fourth, Hanson scored his 4 points and Geissler popped a triple.
In Thursday’s opener, Riggs had 13 and Godwin 7. Schroeder added 6, Lindsey 5, Redam 4, Cameron McDonald 3 and Schrader 2.
For the seventh grade, no details were available on Monday’s contest. On Thursday, however, Jaylen Williams led the way with 9 points. Zachariah Foote had 6, Isaac Devine 3 with Demetrius Sanders and Evan Barrett 2 each.
The Hornets host Sheridan tonight.
