Bishop Park to be site of 2010 Bryant Family Fest

By Martin Couch

There will be a surprise for this year’s annual Bryant Family Festival on July 4.

As if bands like Cartel and Trajikly White, a tribute to Elvis, a Corvette show and a huge fireworks show wasn’t enough, Family Fest will happen this year at Bryant’s newly constructed Bishop Park on Boone Road.[more]

“We’re having an open house July 4 and we’re going to talk about memberships to the public and get the people excited about having a park like this,” director of Bryant Parks and Receration Jeremy Lemons said. “About the second or third week in July we’re going to take ownership for good. “

Bishop Park features a community center that will be open for tours throughout Family Fest and most of the park area will be completed with the exception of the acquatics area.

“Right now, we’re trying to get the parking lot done,” Lemons said. “Hopefully it will be ready by July 4.”

The main area for Family Fest will be centered around the Bishop’s old home site located in the center of the park.

“What we’re hoping to do is carry on our tradition of Bryant Family Fest like we have for the last 11 years,” Lemons added. “We’ve got a big national act in Cartel coming in on Saturday night and tons of other acts. It will be at the old house place where most of the things will be kept around that location. We will have Sunday church services there and a fireworks show on Sunday night.”

Updated pictures of Bishop Park can be seen on the “Friends of Bryant Parks and Recreations” website.

“Having all this in a new park is going to be tough, but it will be fun,” Lemons said.
