LITTLE ROCK — Led by second-place finishes from Zach Simmons and Brett Blend, the Bryant[more] Hornets opened the 2012-13 wrestling season on Saturday at the Central Wrestling Classic at Little Rock Central High School with a fifth-place finish as a team in the varsity division.
Simmons was the runner-up in the 126-pound division while Blend finished second in the 145-pound division.
Four other wrestlers from Bryant earned third-place finishes in their weight classifications. At 138-pounds, it was Chris Baldwin. At 152-pounds, it was Kyle Thompson. At 160-pounds, Connor Goshien took third and, at 170-pounds, Levi Brady did as well.
In the junior varsity division, J.T. Dudderar won the 152-pound division with Cody Tazalaar taking second in the 132-pound field.
"The team headed into this season with high expectations," noted head coach Dondre Harris. "They did not disappoint on Saturday."
The Hornets were set to host a dual meet with North Little Rock this evening at 5:15 in Building 36 on the main campus. They’ll host the annual Hornet Invitational this Saturday, Dec. 8, beginning at 10 a.m., in the Bryant Middle School gym.
