TULSA, Okla. — Senior Haley Hood, juniors Brianna Hood and Jadyn Lewis brought home three golds, a bronze, and two fifth-place medals in the USATF Region 9 Championship meet at the University of Tulsa July 9-12. Over 850 athletes competed in the four-day meet.
Haley Hood opened the meet with the two-day 17-18 year old girls Heptathlon on a stormy, lightening-delayed Thursday. She won the high jump and 800-meter events on the way to a fifth place finish overall. The top two finishers advanced to Nationals.
On Friday, Brianna Hood earned first gold in the 15-16 year old girls 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:45.
On Saturday, Lewis ran the 15-16 year old girls 400-meter preliminaries qualifying for Sunday’s final with a time of 1:00.96. Haley Hood competed in the 17-18 year old girls 400-meter hurdles picking up a third-place bronze medal finish with a personal best time of 1:05.89.
On Sunday, Haley Hood garnered the gold medal in 17-18 year old girls high jump with a leap of 5’3″. Lewis competed in the 400-meter finals turning in a fifth place finish with a time of 1:00.13 and punching her ticket to Nationals in Jacksonville, Fla. Brianna Hood finished the day with a gold medal in 15-16 year old girls triple jump with a leap of 30’8.25″.
The trio will compete in five events at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville July 27 to Aug. 2.
