Over 60 Bryant High School students will bring Victor Hugo’s dramatic tale of love and redemption to the stage in the spring production of Les Miserables — School Edition. This powerful show inspires and moves audiences as Hugo’s unforgettable character, Jean Valjean, struggles to bring light and hope to the complex and dark world of the French Revolution.
Known as Les Miz, the show is set in early 19th century France. It is the story of Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving 19 years in prison for having stolen a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child.
When it opened in 1987, Les Miz won eight Tony Awards including best musical, best original musical score, best actor, best actress, and best director. One of the all-time favorite Broadway musicals, Les Miserables is set in a time of despair and revolution, but the music is uplifting and inspires hope, perseverance, and love.
Les Miz will be presented April 16-19 in Love Auditorium. Performances are at 7p.m., April 16, 17 and 18. A 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled for April 19. Tickets are $8 at the box office with general admission seating.
