The Bryant High School golf team begins its season today with a match at Ridge Point Country Club in Jonesboro.
The Hornets, who finished third at the State Tournament last year, returns three of the golfers that competed at that tourney, led by sophomore Drew Castleberry who equaled the lowest score for the team over the two day event.
The Lady Hornets return the top three finishers and four of the five competitors from their fourth-place score at State. They were led by Peyton Weaver and Savanna Cathey, who are back for their senior season.
Along with Castleberry, senior Chase Thornton and junior Nick Canale return after competing at State. In addition, the team includes senior Chris Troillett; juniors Logan Moore, Luke Brantley, Peyton Sharp; sophomore Zach Byars; and freshmen Hunter Thompson, Tanner Catton, Derrick Blake, Hunter Winkles and David Fulton.
Abigail McGee, a sophomore, returns to the girls team after competing at State last fall as well as junior Tiffany Robinson. Junior Josie Hill and freshmen Katy Edwards and Maya Jackson complete the team.
“Most of them have been playing USGA tournaments and Junior PGA stuff,” noted BHS coach Keith Dale. “They’re ready. It’s just a matter of getting out there and playing.”
