Seventh grade teams at Bethel Middle School notched wins against Lake Hamilton on[more] Tuesday night.
In girls action, the A team prevailed 24-19 and the B team notched a 12-8 victory. In boys play, the A team edged the Wolves 22-21 and the B team earned a 22-17 win.
The Bethel seventh grade teams will compete in the Wildcat Shootout at Episcopal Collegiate Academy in Little Rock starting Dec. 4. The B team has a game against Bryant White on Dec. 10.
“I was so pleased with the great effort I got from both groups tonight,” said Lady Hornets coach Rhonda Hall. “We really played hard and worked together.
“Raija Todd did a great job leading us in scoring in the A game while Raelae Benton and Abby Henson led the way in scoring in our B game.”
The A team trailed 8-7 after a quarter but then held Lake Hamilton scoreless in the second period to surge to a 15-8 advantage by halftime.
In the B game, Bethel jumped out to a 6-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. The game was tied 6-6 at halftime but Lake Hamilton only managed to score 2 points in the entire second half as the Lady Hornets forged the victory.
In the boys A game, Bethel trailed 7-2 after a quarter but held the Wolves without a point in the second quarter to whittle the lead to 7-6. A big third quarter burst put the Hornets in the lead 16-12 then they held on at the end.
Diante Woodson paced the effort with 7 points. Sam Chumley and Keith West pitched in with 5 points each while Preston Kyzer added 3 and Matthew Sandidge 2.
In the B game, the Hornets trailed 4-0 after a quarter but by halftime were within 8-7. They surged in the third quarter to take a 16-13 lead into the final stanza.
Malcolm Moody led the way with 11 points. Kyzer had 5, Mitchell Wollard 4 and Reese Graham 2.
