The Lady Hornets of Bethel Middle School captured victories over Lighthouse Charter of Jacksonville Thursday night. In the eighth grade game, Bryant Blue improved to 10-0 on the season with a 44-10 victory. In the seventh grade contest, the Lady Hornets moved to 6-2 with a 30-4 win.
The eighth grade team is set to play next at Lake Hamilton on Monday. The seventh grade will compete in A and B games at home against Lake Hamilton on Thursday.
Raija Todd scored 15 points to lead the Lake Hornets’ eighth grade on Thursday against Lighthouse. Anna Inman added 8, Danielle Singleton 6. Abby Henson and Katy Evans finished with 4 points each, while Bailey Rowton scored 3, Raelae Benton and Madison Treat 2 each.
“Our girls did a good job of setting the tone for the victory with good defense, taking a commanding first-quarter lead led by Raija Todd’s scoring and Bailey Rowton’s rebounding,” said Lady Hornets coach Rhonda Hall.
Bethel built a 21-4 lead in the opening period and led 27-8 at the half.
“Anna Inman came in off the bench and had a good offensive night,” Hall noted. “Abby Henson and Danielle Singleton played well for us in the win.”
In the seventh grade game, the Lady Hornets led 12-0 after the first quarter and 22-0 by halftime.
Mary Catherine Selig scored 8 points, Bailey Brazil 6 and Ashlyn Thompson 4. Megan Lee, Rachel Studdard, Ellen Barnes, Allysa Fason and Rebecca Wertenberger pitched in with 2 apiece.
