The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets seventh and eighth grade teams of Bethel Middle School hosted Russellville on Tuesday and one of the North Little Rock middle schools on Thursday night.
The seventh graders eked out a pair of wins, improving to 4-1 on the season. They edged Russellville, 9-8, then topped North Little Rock 19-17.
The eighth grade team suffered a 39-17 loss to Russellville then took a 30-18 setback to North Little Rock. Now 1-4, the eighth grade girls play Conway Blue at Bryant Middle School’s gym on Monday, Dec. 7.
The seventh grade team’s next outing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10, against Bryant White at Bethel.
In the eighth grade game against North Little Rock all nine of the Lady Hornets scored 2 points. North Little Rock established an 11-4 lead in the first quarter and held a 17-10 edge at the half. It was 28-10 going into the fourth quarter.
In the seventh grade game, the Lady Hornets fell behind 5-0 in the first quarter and trailed 9-7 at the half. But a third-quarter surge pushed them out front 18-13.
Ashton Inman and Addison Funk each scored 5 points. Abby Inman added 4 with Kattrina Johnson scoring 3 and Meagan Brown 2.
On Tuesday, Casey Welch had 6 points for the Bethel eighth graders. Cali Rogers added 5 with Jada Deaton and Skyler Callahan scoring 3 apiece.
Russellville jumped to a 14-5 lead by the end of the opening period. It was 24-9 at the half and 39-14 going into the final quarter.
Bryant Blue’s seventh graders took a 3-2 lead in the first quarter but trailed 6-5 at the half. Russellville led 8-7 at the start of the fourth quarter but was unable to score in the final six minutes.
Funk paced Bethel with 4 points. Ashton Inman had 3 and Johnson 2.
