LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School opened the Anthony School Tournament in impressive fashion on Monday, rolling up an 8-1 lead after a quarter on the way to a 36-13 victory over the Little Rock Episcopal Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Hornets play Thursday at 5 against the winner of tonight’s contest between the Anthony School and Joe T. Robinson.
“I thought we played very hard and had great intensity,” said Bethel coach Derek McGrew. “We shot poorly again and just need to continue to work on it in practice.”
Mary Catherine Selig paced the scoring with 12 points. Grace Ouellette added 5, Rachel Studdard 4. Ashlyn Thompson and Alyssa Fason pitched in with 3 each while Megan Lee, Lauren Burnett, Rebecca Wertenberger and Andrea Thomas scored 2 apiece. Hannah Eason hit a free throw.
“I was able to play all 15 girls in every quarter and 10 different players contributed in scoring,” McGrew noted.
The Lady Hornets held a 17-3 advantage at the half. It was 26-8 going into the fourth quarter.
