PEARCY — Though the meet was cancelled before it was over by storms in the area, the Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade track team of Bethel Middle School turned in[more] some sparkling performances at their last meet of the season at Lake Hamilton.
John Winn broke the Bryant Junior High record and Lake Hamilton meet record in the 400 with a time of 51.37. That was good for first place in the event, one of three the Hornets earned in the 10 events that were completed.
“We finished with 77 points but if the meet would have been completed there was a chance for us to score about 110 which would be a season-high for the boys,” stated Bryant Blue coach Bobby Winn.
“This was a great track season with some great athletes who will have a chance to be very special in the Bryant schools if they keep on running track through high school,” he added.
Brushawn Hunter won two events at the meet. He topped the field in the long jump and the triple jump. In the former, he covered 18-9.25; in the latter, he went 37-5.25.
Winn was fourth in the long jump, leaping 17-6.6. He also finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.36. Hunter added a fourth in the 400, finishing in 55.74.
Brenden Young ran a 16.58 in the 110 hurdles to earn second-place points. Dalton Davis turned in a 19.46 clocking to take sixth.
In the 1600, Houston Clifton finished fifth and Dylan Wolf sixth. Clifton turned in a 5:21.56 with Wolf at 5:22.32.
Two of the three relays were completed as well. In the 4×800, Bryant’s team of Clifton, Micah Holdman, Wolf and Mark Winn finished third in 9:49.03. In the 4×100, Young, Clark Garland, Bryce Hardin and Hunter placed fourth with a time of 48.38.
