LITTLE ROCK — A group of concerned students from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has selected two charities to be the beneficiaries of a special screening of a documentary film and a two-night concert presentation to be held Sept. 24-25 at Juanita’s Café and Bar in Little Rock.
An organization working to raise awareness of the 24-year long war in east central Africa and rebuilding the war-torn areas of northern Uganda, Invisible Children will be the recipient of proceeds raised from a special documentary screening and benefit concert on the first night of the event.[more]
A documentary produced by and for Invisible Children, “Go: The Schools for Schools Movie” chronicles the experiences of 20 young Americans who travel to Uganda to help rebuild schools and provide students with more opportunities for quality education.
The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m., and will be immediately followed by a special concert, with all proceeds raised during the evening benefiting Invisible Children.
CARTI Kids, a support network and program for pediatric cancer survivors receiving treatment at the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute, will benefit from the second evening of the fundraiser with a benefit concert scheduled for 8 p.m.
Scheduled performers thus far include Sean Michel, Falcon Scott, Bad Hand, and Stephen Neepler and the Breakthrough. Both evenings are open to the public. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted both nights on behalf of the focused charities.
The two-evening special event kicks off another fundraising year for the UAMS students, who last year raised over $8,700 on behalf of Invisible Children.
