BRYANT, Ark. — One would be hard pressed to find two teams more evenly matched than the Bryant Lady Hornets and the Mount St. Mary's Belles on Tuesday, March 31. It took almost 100 minutes for the their 7A-Central Conference soccer match to be decided.
In the end, the Belles got a goal with just 2:14 left in the second overtime to extract a 4-3 victory.
"It was just a great soccer match," declared Bryant head coach Doug Maxwell. "A great battle between two very good teams. We hate to come out on the losing end of it. But it was still good for us, just for the girls to play at that level, with that intensity for right at 100 minutes."
Bryant was up 2-1 at the half. Mount St. Mary's scored twice early in the second half before the Lady Hornets tied it with about eight minutes left in regulation.[more]
"We had some chances to win it in regulation but just couldn't convert," noted Maxwell.
Amber Moskow accounted for two of Bryant's goals. Haley Montgomery had the third. Sarah Manning, Maggie Hart and Montgomery had assists.
"It was a rough game," Maxwell mentioned. "It was a really physical game. There were some no-calls that I wasn't exactly happy with, and they weren't either. It's just that you have some chances — and we had some good looks. We just couldn't find the back of the net on it. We had some chances to win it in overtime too."
Maxwell added that the team is still without Lindsai Arceneaux due to a knee injury but hopes are she'll be available soon. He also noted that defender Serenity Gomez returned after being out for 10 days or so and played at about 80 percent, still hampered by an ankle injury.
The Lady Hornets make the long trek to Van Buren on Thursday for another conference match.
