CABOT — Before the rain set in, Bryant’s Cade Howard earned his second straight[more] win at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 girls doubles team of Allie Hogancamp and Sara Lequieu triumphed as well when the Bryant tennis team took on Cabot on Thursday.
Howard defeated Jordan Sumler 8-5 while Hogancamp and Lequieu prevailed, 8-5, or Lexi Weeks and Teri Weeks.
The No. 1 girls singles match went to Cabot’s Emma Bard, 8-5, over Bryant’s Callie Hogancamp.
Both boys varsity doubles matches were completed with Cabot earning a sweep. Adam Hicks and Tyler Majors defeated Bryant’s Dalton Lane and Lane Ricardo, 8-0, while Drew Myers and Logan Surdan bested Bryant’s Spencer Sullivan and Noah Hargis, 8-2.
In JV matches, Bryant’s Caleb Hixon lost a singles match to Caleb Duerknap, 0-6, and Eli McKinnie topped Bryant’s Erica Pounder, 6-3.
Of the matches that were in progress when the storms hit Cabot, the most compelling was the No. 1 doubles match between Bryant’s Kristen Dudley and Autumn Rouse who were tied with Cabot’s Mollie Wood and Cheir Young, 8-8, and headed to a tiebreaker.
At No. 2 singles, the Lady Hornets’ Whitney Butler and Cabot’s Kristen Sumler were knotted 4-4.
For the Hornets, No. 2 singles player Nick Ross was trailing Jacob Dills, 1-2, and Emma Patrick, in a JV match looked like she might be on her way to a victory over Olivia Fredricks.
Bryant’s next action will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, against Little Rock Central at Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock.
