Barracudas second at first meet at Bishop Aquatics Center

By Becky Sullivan

The Barracudas swim team hosted the Sherwood Sharks and Conway Crocodiles at their[more] first ever meet to be held at the Bishop Aquatics Center on Saturday, June 25. The Sherwood Sharks were victorious, but the Barracudas managed to minimize that lead against the biggest team in the Central Arkansas Swim League (CASL).

Final team scores were Sharks 711, Barracudas 504, and Crocodiles 110. That’s a far cry from the 1,034 points the Sharks scored against the Barracudas 253 in the 2010 season.

Swimming is as much an individual sport as it is a team sport. There are swimmers working hard each and every week. The team’s coaches were put on the spot to name “one swimmer in each age group that’s working hard and they don’t have to be the fastest but they can be.”

Here are the results of the coach’s poll:

8 & under – Caden Tweedle

9-10 year olds – Isabella Harrison

11-12 year olds – Boston Heil

13-14 year olds – Cory Thompson

15 & ups – Deidra Reeves

The Barracudas host their third and final home meet on Saturday, July 9 against the Maumelle Marlins. The meet will be held at the Bishop Aquatic Center. Competition begins at 8 a.m.

The team extends appreciation to this year’s Gold Level Sponsors: Landers Auto Body, Everett Buick GMC, Back and Body Chiropractic, Arkansas Bone & Joint, Bryant First United Methodist Church, and Longhills Golf Club. Contributions help the Barracuda swim team provide a strong, competitive program for swimmers of all ages. The positive environment, team spirit, supportive parents, and team pride help create a strong family atmosphere, which is building a winning tradition in Saline County.
