Barracudas dominate in first summer swim competition

The Bryant Barracudas swim team hosted their season opener Saturday against[more] the Lakewood Waves. The meet was held at Longhills in Benton. The Barracudas shook up the Waves, and the YMCA team with team score of 597. The Waves finished with 256 and YMCA with 14.

The ‘Cudas figure to have a strong team this summer.

Mason Nelson, Amanda Stovall, Garrett Sullivan, and Kelsie Vaughn each scored high points for the team by winning all their races within their age groups. Jenna Jamison scored high points and took it a “stroke further” by swimming the final leg for the first place girls 18 and Under freestyle relay. Rounding out that winning effort was Megan Curry, Courtney Wells, and Mikayla Douglas.

Dylan Machycek and Nelson raced away with team records in every event they competed in. Machycek, in Boys 17-and-up freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley; Nelson, in Boys 11-12 freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and individual medley.

Other Barracudas swam away with records: Garrett Sullivan in the Boys 13-14 butterfly; Jenna Jamison in the Girls 13-14 backstroke; and Andrew Dull in Boys 17-and-up breaststroke.

The Barracudas travel to Cabot Saturday, June 18, to compete against the Cabot Piranhas and Lonoke Shark Rockets. Swimming begins at 8 a.m.
