Special Olympics Arkansas (Area 10) Track and Field Games will be hosted by Bryant High School this Friday, April 4 at Hornet Stadium. The competition for school age students runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Evening events are held for adults and begin at 4:30. In case of rain, events will be moved to the fieldhouse.
The event will bring together over 200 athletes and volunteers. Track and field events include shot put, softball throw, tennis ball throw, relay race, running/standing long jump, 50-100-200-400 meter race, and 25-100-400 meter walk.
Along with many others, Bryant High School students serve as volunteers. Students from Teachers of Tomorrow, Jr. Civitan, AFROTC and Student Senate and have been involved in Special Olympics for many years.
Special Olympics Arkansas serves athletes from all 75 counties in the state. The counties are divided into areas where athletes train and compete. Area 10 serves Clark, Garland, Hot Springs, Montgomery Pike and Saline counties.
The mission of Special Olympics Arkansas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
