NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Lady Hornets solidified their hold on second place and kept[more] the pressure on league-leading Conway with a 5-1 win over the North Little Rock Lady Charging Wildcats Friday night. It was the Lady Hornets’ eighth win in the last nine games.
Bryant is now 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the 7A/6A-Central Conference heading into the second half of the conference round-robin schedule. Little Rock Central visits Bryant on Thursday then they travel to play Mount St. Mary Academy on Friday at Burns Park.
“After the first round of conference, we are sitting in a pretty good place,” noted Lady Hornets coach Julie Long. “We are still focusing on taking one game at a time.”
Once again, the Lady Hornets surged in the second half. They led 2-1 at the intermission on goals by Shelby Gartrell and Kaitlin Gaiser. Gartrell’s goal came off an assist from Rori Whittaker. Gaiser’s came off a pass from Bailey Gartrell off a corner kick.
Bailey Gartrell finished with three assists in the match. He assisted on his sister Shelby’s second goal to start the second-half onslaught then fed Maggie Hart for a goal. Katie Moore finished off the scoring off an assist from Shelby Gartrell.
“The girls played very well in the second half,” Long acknowledged. “Overall, we are just trying to get better every game. One of our big focuses right now is to start coming out with the same intensity we are finishing games with.”
