Kim Akers, first grade teacher at Hill Farm Elementary, was selected from 11 of the Bryant School District’s most outstanding teachers to be the 2014 District Teacher of the Year. These teachers were honored at the annual Retirement and Awards Reception on May 13.
Teacher of the Year nominees, selected from each individual school, include:

Cherie Grist, Paron Elementary
Starlite Whitfield, Hurricane Creek Elementary
Statia Smith, Salem Elementary

Eric Ryan, Bethel Middle School
Sandra Weihe, Bryant Middle School
David Seal, Bryant High School
Akers has been a professional educator for the past 23 years, all with the Bryant School District. She has taught first, second, and fifth grades and has served as a math learning specialist. She is considered a leader in Common Core curriculum development and training. Her math classroom was recently filmed by AETN to help educate parents about Common Core.
Akers will represent the Bryant School District in the Arkansas Teacher of the Year competition.
