GREENBRIER — Bryant Lady Hornets freshman guard McKenzie Adams finished Monday’s game at Greenbrier with as many points as the hosting Lady Panthers.
Adams hit for 26 in Bryant’s 46-26 victory. She had 19 by halftime when the Lady Hornets, who improved to 6-0 on the season, had built a 27-13 advantage.[more]
“Every day before a game, we talk about getting off to a good start,” noted Lady Hornets head coach Eric Andrews. “We like to get things rolling in the right direction and we did that tonight. We came out of the gates and looked great.
“Then, I don’t know, we just kind of went through a lull,” he added. “We just kind of sat back and let them get their rhythm going, let them climb back into the game a little bit. I took a timeout and the girls responded great out the timeout. We came out and got the ball rolling again so I was proud of them for that.”
The Lady Hornets pressure defense was key to the fast start, Andrews acknowledged.
“We caused a few turnovers but not a lot,” he said. “(Greenbrier) handled the press pretty well early but I thought as we continued to press throughout the game, we kind of wore them down a little bit and that helped us with some turnovers later.
“On offense, early in the game, we were able to spread them out which gave us some real good lanes to get to the basket,” he noted. “The girls did a good job of getting in and finishing.”
Lauren Buck had 6 points for Bryant. McKenzie Rice and Kiara Moore each had 4. Logan Davis, Courtney Davidson and Whitney Myer added 2 apiece.
“McKenzie (Adams) is getting more confidence shooting from the perimeter,” Andrews said of his scoring leader. “Whenever she’s hitting from the perimeter, it makes for a combination that pretty hard to stop because she can get to the basket and finish. If you back off of her she can hit shots.”
Bryant led 38-21 at the end of the third quarter and built its lead to as much as 46-23.
The Lady Hornets travel to Conway Blue for their opener in the South Division of the Central Arkansas Conference on Monday, Nov. 30.
