On behalf of the Bryant High School Cross Country and Track program, I am very excited to hear about the possibility of a running/bike trail being built along the perimeter fence of the Saline County airport. This would be a great asset to our program. As you know, cross country training requires a huge amount of running, and being able to utilize a training site where you do not have to worry about vehicular traffic, plus the added bonus of being able to train on a soft grass surface, would be wonderful. Currently we have 181 athletes in our program and with the growth of our city, it is almost impossible to find safe roads and streets to train on. The airport fitness trail would eliminate that problem.[more]
On a personal level, I am an avid runner and cyclist, and this type of venue would be a dream come true. Rather than driving 30 minutes to the River Trail in North Little Rock, we could have that same type of exercise facility right here in our own backyard.
Our athletes, coaches, and parents definitely put a huge stamp of approval on this project and we are very excited about its possibilities.
Also, I would like to thank County Judge Lanny Fite and his staff for their time and effort in applying for this grant.
We all have our fingers crossed that the grant will be approved and construction can begin soon.
