LONG BEACH, Miss. — The Bryant 7-year-old All-Stars held the George County, Miss., team to[more] just three hits as they won their third straight Southwest Regional Tournament game on Saturday, 8-0.
Bryant has allowed just one run in its three wins at the tournament so far.
The team, managed by Jeremy Stovall, is Garrison Blacklaw, Brady Brower, Reid Catton, Clay Crawford, Gage Horn, Dillon Hunt, Grant Johnson, Carson Kemp, Gideon Motes, Carson Nagle, Hank Penfield, and Caden Stovall.
Bryant had the runs they needed with three in the first then added five in the third. Catton, Johnson, Horn, Nagle and Stovall each had two hits with Horn and Nagle driving in two each.
The first-inning uprising began with a single and stolen base by Catton. He scored when Kemp grounded out to short, surprising George County with his break to the plate.
With two down, Johnson singled and swiped second. Hunt beat out an infield hit as Johnson held at second but they pulled off a double steal and Horn’s infield hit drove in Johnson to make it 2-0. Nagle then lined a single past third to chase him Hunt.
Catton was the instigator in the third as well beating out a bunt single. Kemp’s single to left set up Johnson’s RBI double. Hunt plated a run with a sacrifice fly before Horn doubled to bring Johnson around, making it 6-0.
Nagle knocked in Horn with his single to left. Stovall’s double brought Nagle around to extend the lead to 8-0.
George County managed a one-out single in the top of the fourth and a lead-off hit in the fifth but nothing more.
