At the time, someone that came out onto the football field at Sheridan High School admitted, it was one of the worst breaks they’d ever seen.

Not that they’d seen a lot of them occur at a high school football game, particularly a broken leg.

Still, it wasn’t pretty.

Bryant White won the opening game 26-24.

The team includes Mariah Aguilar, Jayla Anderson, Haley Collins, Claire Henderson, Madison Krick, Taylor Lindberg, Brittany McDonald, Makayla Nguyen, Alexis Parsley, Jessica Reese, Charli Sahr, Sarah Shepard, Abby Staton, and Jordan Tarvin.

“We are getting better every game,” stated coach DeAnna Ward. “I am still trying to get everyone some game experience so I can see what they can do in front of a crowd. Everyone played.

The defensive coaches for the Bryant Hornets, Brad Stroud, Steve Griffith and John Wells, were reviewing video of the team’s scrimmage against Pine Bluff a couple of days after the fact. The players had not yet arrived at the fieldhouse.

A play came up and one of the coaches ran it back a second time.

“Watch this,” he said.

The play unfolded. It was pass by Pine Bluff with a slight rollout by the quarterback who pulled up and was buried. First by Bryant defensive end James Kidd and tackle Josh Hampton. The other Bryant tackle, Matt Jones, wasn’t far behind.

It was a sack. Great play, everyone agreed.

“You know who made the best play, don’t you?” one of the coaches asked as if he knew and his fellow coaches knew too.

They did.
