The 12th annual Monster Madness at Mills, an outdoor Halloween event with activities for kids of all ages put on by the Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant and the Bryant Parks Department, will be held one night only on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Mills Park, 1003 Mills Park Road.
At 6:30 p.m., “the real Monster Madness at Mills fun begins,” said Chairperson Suzanne Passmore.
Trick or treating between business booths begins at 6:30. Munchkinland will feature inflatables, ghouls and pumpkin tic tac toe toss and other games. Armbands for Munchkinland will cost $3 ticket for all evening.
A Halloween costume contest for kids will be held at 7 p.m., at the Mills Park stage. Prizes will be given for the best costumes. There will be divisions for different ages in the competition.
Bryant Boys and Girls Club will be selling hot dogs and hot chocolate. They will also receive all proceeds from the Munchkinland and share in the proceeds from the haunted trail ride.
The haunted hayride on the trail begins at dark (about 6:45 to 7 p.m.) and will end at 9. The last hayride will load at 8:45 p.m.
“The trail is designed for kids 12 years and up but it is up to the parents if they want to ride with a younger child,” said Rae Ann Fields, Chamber Director.
The ride is $5 per person. Sights include zombies, a medieval catapult fight against monsters, scary clowns, spiders, bats, vampires, a haunted campground, cemeteries, witches, a mausoleum, an attack scene and a few other “surprises” with live actors.
S’mores will be served to those who ride the trail upon completion of the ride and is included in the $5 price.
“This year we have new props on the trail,” noted Passmore. “Look for more movement and sound.”
Businesses are invited to put on scenes on the trail. Those who sponsor scenes on the trail will be acknowledged with a four-foot high sign in the shape of a tombstone on the trail announcing their sponsorship.
A rainout date of Oct. 29 is set in case of severe bad weather.
“A light drizzle or mist will not stop us,” noted Fields.
